Job Title:        Sales Estimator

Reports To:   Sales Manager Contract Manufacturing (Don Robasse)

Status:            Non-Exempt

Job Purpose:

Responsible for preparing accurate and professional cost estimates to the sales team for issuing profitable customer quotations. Estimates will include material processing, welding, machining, inspection, outside services and assembly services to support new and existing business opportunities.

Essential Duties and/or Responsibilities: 

Generate cost estimates for the requested scope of work to be performed. 

  • Evaluate customer requirements by interpreting drawings and /or models that are supplied by the customer, then develop cost models for parts and assemblies including time, raw material, and outside services estimates as required to establish quoted costs.
  • Establish project scope, guidelines, deliverables and metrics. 
  • Ensures quotes are completed within customer expected timeframes.  
  • Responds promptly to customer's communications.
  • Provides periodic updates to customer and ERMC team on the progress of complex quoting packages.
  • Review material and labor requirements to execute make or buy decisions.
  • Provide Risk Assessment for project and cost estimate.
  • Proactively support the Company's operational excellence.
  • Work collaboratively with internal Subject Matter Experts (SME) to collect cost estimates.
  • Perform post-project analysis of quoted versus actual costs.
  • Maintains quoting records integrity.
  • Ability to understand implications for common commercial terms and conditions, including PO Terms.



Experience and Education: Five (10) years minimum manufacturing and estimating related experience; preferably in a job shop, focused on metal fabrication and/or machine shop environment. 

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • College or Technical Degree in related field preferredKnowledge and Skills Required:
  • Production and Processing - Knowledge of raw material types, versed in welding standards and methods, machining methods, related production and secondary processes.
  • Proficient with engineering drawings and viewing 3D models. SolidWorks and AutoCAD a big plus. 
  • Familiar with most types of machine tools and their capabilities. 
  • Understand and interpret technical drawings/blue print reading, GDT standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and Project) 
  • Team player with strong communication skills. Must be able to interact with internal and external customers on a technical level, both verbally and written.
  • Self-starter with great analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to make accurate decisions using logic, experience and judgment.
  • Ability to multitask, accurately and effectively plan out tasks and projects and develop preliminary schedules.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
